As a heavy sat nav user in every day life I have not owned or bought a UK map/atlas for a long time but really want to get one for when we go away in the bus, ideally it needs to be A4 size but I would like it to be as detailed and as bigger scale as maps get. I haven't got a clue if anything of this sort exists but wondering if anyone else owns & recommend a particular one etc. Thanks, Robo...
Go to The Works on your local high street (there's one at the opposite end of Gallowtree Gate to the clock tower) - they always have the large UK and Europe maps in there cheap - and they will probably be the 2013 version too.
I thought there might be something out there with a bit more detail, maybe even with places of interest marked etc. something different to the standard atlas although I do intend getting a couple of the cheapo ones, one to mark places where others have been & recommend as places worth a visit & another to mark the places we go & visit
We bought one when we first bought Arthur - I think it's the AA one but I'd have to check when I get home. You're best looking at the ones in WH Smith to see what suits your needs. Ours has places of interest marked and the scale is excellent although the pages are a bit flimsy...

wE USUALLY BUY THE os MAPS. caps oops. Especially of NW Scotland. Shows all the wee roads and lots off other useful info. Be nice if they did a great big book.
I bought the 2013 AA book just this weekend, I compared it to a few others makes and it seemed the clearest and easiest to read, I think it was about £12
Will deffo be getting a couple of these for the marking of places to visit & another with places we have visited, was hoping to get the kids involved with looking at maps and planning trips etc.
They used to - it was called the AA Book Of The Road. I bought 2 of them, 10 years apart, the last one being around 1999. I believe this is the modern equivalent: http://shop.theaa.com/store/uk-1/aa-great-britain-road-atlas-2013-leather-a4
I'm not fond of the A3 maps just because they always get bent and ripped - the AA books in hardback or leather bound are good sturdy objects although they are heavy. They fit nicely behind the front seats They contain lots of extra information too.
