..dellorto drla 40 jetting advice needed..

    Hi..right then..so i have disassembled my dells now..have a few questions but lets start with this one..i've got a mixture of different sizes jets taken off the carbs (they never ran on vws)..heres what i have..
    Air corr 2 x 175, 2 x 180
    Mains 2 x 118, 2 x 142
    Idles 3 x 46, 1 x 52
    Emulsion tubes 2 x 9164.1, 2 x 9164.2
    Vents 2 x 28, 2 x 32
    Did i miss something?..not sure..
    Please can you advise me which way to go?..as mentioned in another thread im looking for nice torque engine dont like to rev it..just looking for a base for a good starting point

  2. Id go with the 28 vents. Im running them on a standard 2 litre its a lively drive. Will see if i can find all the rest of the jetting details but im running mine rich on largeish mains. Possibly 140 or similar.

  3. Another vote for 28s, or your power will start moving up the top end.

    I listed the jetting for my 1776 a while ago - have a search.

  4. I have the following on a 1800cc type 4

    Chokes 30; Main jet 132; emulsion tube 9164.2; air corrector 180;
    idle jet 58; pump jet 33; needle valve 150

    each half of the carb feeds one cylinder so all four should be the same? looks like you have carbs off two different engines

    maybe you can ask eurocarb what they recommend, I hear that they will tell you what setup is recommended for your engine size
     
  5. Be careful with eurocarb. When i first got mine they recommnded 34s..... kin miles out!

  7. Sounds like you have 2 different carbs from the off, what dickie says is about right, have a read of the Dellorto tech book.

  8. do you have to dismantle the carb to get the numbers?

    sadly yes unless you have them noted down in your engine build notepad (with references to bearing sizes, conrod weights etc etc)

    ..much appreciated guys..need to get the book then..yeah the carbs came off different cars im affraid and what makes it even worse they are both rhs..but im going to convert one of them to lhs no probs..got them quite cheaply so couldnt be moaning

  14. Mine, for a 1776 type 1:

    vents - 28mm
    emulsion - 9164.2
    idle - 57
    main - 118
    air - 180
    pump - 35

  15. Finally got round to looking at my carbs

    32vents
    9146.2 emulsion
    135 main jets
    The idles are various with missing o rings!
    I think 2 are 46 and the other 2 the number has worn off but look smaller

    If I leave the vents as 32 I worked out I would need 128 mains or go a lil bigger to 130’s
    How do I calc the idles? It is hard to start but will idle but under acceleration it bogs down.

    Or should I choke it a lil and swap out my vents for 30’s. Just wanna drive it not fly round in it.

  16. Choke them right down to 28mm. 32 is far too big for a van. Idles - start with 57s.

    As above, fit 28mm vents. 32mm (and 30mm) vents are too big for the small valves on a standard 2.0l bus engine.

    Spend some of your savings on a PLX or Innovate AFR setup. Works out cheaper than rolling road sessions but takes longer to get right. Find a local hill for looking at power, and benchmark your speed e.g. passing the manhole cover after the traffic light goes green.

    And watch the AFR gauge or use the little history graph on the PLX multifunction display to show you what the AFR did when you floored it...

  20. I have the innovate system , it uses a wideband lamda sensor in the exhaust to either tell the EFI what the air fuel ratio is or direct to s gauge on your dash !!!! It shows you what the air fuel ratio is at different driving conditions and you can adjust jets etc to suit ...
