  1. WOW Excellent find ! What a great bus :)

  2. Translated the M-plate its always been Sumatra Green and Pastel White, its written on the original sales sheet, and there is a L61B /L90 silver sticker under the mplate.

Its a stock 1600cc which is great for me as I've only ever had type 1 engines :)

Part number on the box of the mud flaps is 271-821-805 if they are not for a 73 might explain why they were not fitted. What would be the difference in the mounting on a early vs late? would they fit my '64 Split?

I don't suppose you have the original bill of sale do you?

  4. no idea on if they will fit your split . yours are defo prototype bay and they are totally different ,different inner arch and different engine hanger .i have genuine ones on my Dec 72 so i can sort a picture ..they fetch decent money over on earlybay.com ........i was only trying to get a rise if it was a 1600:p .....

  5. change that mud flaps are 100% earlybay rear ones and i just noticed you already have rear ones fitted

  6. where was it for the 16 months from manufacture to register ? mines a Nov 72 build and only hung around til the following Feb but it is bus 26,832 before yours

  7. No idea would love to know. In my mind it was a lovely show room in reality probably lost at the dock lol
The box for the Mudflaps has fronts written on it

I have found out the production process at Westfalia could take a while. My van went out of the factory on 28th sept 72. It could possibly have sat in the new vehicle car park at VW for two weeks or longer, It would then be shipped via train to the Westfalia works where it could then sit up to a month before going into the works. ( This was not normal practice btw, just possible!) After production they were shipped quickly to Ramsgate and then moved on to a dealer by Lorry somewhere in the UK . In my case Manchester- A dealer in Old Trafford. He may have had a buyer for it or he may not ( they were very expensive more than a three bed house in my area ) eventually it was sold to a lady called Florence in June 73 - hence the M reg and black n silver plates. Vehicles manufactured before Jan 1st 73 are permitted them. Manufactured after Jan 1st 73 = yellow reflective plates must be displayed. So in effect mine took from Sept 72 until June 73 to be shipped converted. shipped . shipped again and sold. Not bad me thinks!
