  1. Hello all hope all is well . I had to use the headlights this morning and my dash lights are not working . The strange things is my rev volt and water gauge lights work just not the miles and aux gauge . Where do I start and if it's bulbs what ones are best
    Thanks Simon

Have you twiddled the dimmer switch?

  3. Beat me to it.

Not quite sure what the "aux" gauge is.

And what is a “water” gauge?

I managed to get at the bulbs without dismantling anything. Have a good cushion to lie on! The little bulbs are fairly standard. Someone will give you the spec.

  6. As above.. the dimmer is the actual light knob you pull it rotates to adjust dash light brightness. Your gauge lights are prob just wired off a different feed so on or off, you can add them to the dash lights but be careful of loose ends..

Probably dont want to add more filament bulbs to the dimmer as one reason all the instrument lights go out is the dimmer burns out with extra load.
So the lights only come on if you set it to full.

  8. ^this. Don't shovel extra stuff on the dimmer output, or you may burn out the track on the pot.

  9. Thanks for the info . The dash lights use to work with the turn of the knob . Only now they are not . Where will I start to look . Pull the knob and the headlights come on . Will check in the morning if it's dark enough.
Water temperature gauge I have a radiator as I am part of the dark side

I’ve noticed that my dash lights (the two bulbs on the white with red striped wire) are connected to the wrong terminal on the light switch (that or the wiring diagram is wrong). And they were not working even though the bulbs are ok. This ^ might explain why. More investigation tomorrow!

  11. I don't recall any white/red cable. Odd. DON"T CUT IT

I have an early. They probably changed every single wire to brown after 73 :D

I think it's a faded grey and red.
