Used it today fro the first time as my battery was flat (MXS 7) . Been on charge setting for about 5 hours and it bloomin hot! showing ready to use but doesnt go ontofully caharged/float. This normal?
i just used my ctec on flat leisure battery , charger got hot and made a very high pitch noise with light number 3 illuminated , afer some hours battery got hot , then finally ctec reported battery error and cut out . indeed the battery was knackered , bought a new one , put ctec on to charge , all worked as normal , charger got slightly warm but no noise , went to light number 5 - battery usable- so i unplugged it ,all fine
and the charger as well, if its tried to output under those conditions without shutting down. ( an adjunct for those of a gloomy disposition...present company excepted of course. )
Mine gets warm/hot to the touch when charging both my batteries but I've always just thought that's what it does. Is it not because it's taking 240v down to 12ish?
The first time I used mine I thought it was about to burst into flames. I did a lot of googling and phoned Ctek and its completely normal. I've just made sure I've got an air gap all the way round it.
It is a switching power supply effectively so it will generate a lot of heat, the clicking and other noises are the charger switching between modes inside and upping the current and such t help desulphate the plates in the battery. Just make sure it isn't covered up and it should be fine
i had mine for couple of years now, highy recommended bit of kit, if your battery is pooped it will show it.
Pedant - i needed quick response as I was worried and it was late-ish! Thanks everyone for the responses. It was going under the bed - now im thinking attach it something metal to dissipate the heat!
If im going to get pulled up for my spelling and grandma Then im going to be proactive in my own ocd gripe on the forum
