Cover for a bus

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by pyroking, Feb 10, 2013.

  1. I need a cover for my '73 Moonraker (full length roof) since a) the weather shows no sign of abating and b) I apparently need to apply for planning permission to raise the roof of my garage the requisite 30cm to fit the bus in....
I've seen one on JK and another on VWH - any others out there and/or has anyone had any experience of these covers on a bus such as mine?

    Any comments gratefully accepted.
Something tells me this is going to be an expensive year ;)

  2. I have the JK one and have not had any issues with it.

  3. I bought mine from jk and it was 100 quid well spent, hust please dont do what i did and use a blade to cut the tape to get into the box!! Luckily the cover comes in a bag and the bag ended in with a 2 inch gash! But hey ho, i have a 78 devon moonraker and a friend down the road had it on his westy with no issues, there is plenty of material left round the edge under the van, elasticated like a fitted bed sheet so your roof should be fine mate, always worth a phone call to jk just incAse tho but again. Well worth 100 notes as water can accumulate in all sorths of places

  4. I've got the Hamilton classics one, its a bit more spacious then the JK
    I'm very happy with it

  5. my jk one has been great so far.... really easy to get on amd off even when i was on my own x

  6. I have a JK one that the previous owner passed on with Daisy. Haven't used it much, but seems to fit well.

Only issue I have is that I park on the road and need to display my tax disc - anyone know of a cover with an appropriately placed clear section? Am thinking about hacking about with mine, some clear plastic and gaffer tape - won't be ideal, but needs must. Any better ideas?

  7. I think DriftingBear was looking to do something similar. Perhaps you could swap notes ?

Ive heard one or two talk about issues of condensation on the inside of the JK cover - I'm looking for something for the westy and reading through this thread, the JK one is pretty good.

    What other options are available?

  9. Mork, I read about those issues after I bought the cover (doh). I have not had any problems yet but the van is not too sheltered from the wind so you can see the cover blowing out away from the van on a breezy day. If there is no wind for a while, I roll the cover up to the roof for a couple of hours which seems to help.

my concern is with ours living under a carport, it will be protected but its condensation thats my worry, I dont want to end up with more rust issues.

Doing your suggestion of rolling the cover back sounds good!

  11. I have had severeal jk covers over the years quality is good and I have no issues with condensation.

  12. I have a Jk and again had no issues, any cover you have is likely to have some condensation. I just uncover on sunny days.
I have seen the vwh one and it seems to fit quite badly. Camper round the corner and one near my parents all have Jk. Only seen 1 vwh and as said it was quite a bad fit.

thanks guys - I'll get one ordered! much appreciated :)

  14. So I opted for a JK ocver in the end...and thought last night "I really should get this on while the bus is dry"...and woke up to snow :(. Guess I'll be waiting a little longer then

Ive just ordered one - lets hope it gets here before Major comes home :)

  16. Get a breathable one and make sure it is tied down well. Had some issues using an old tunnel awning as a cover which caused the plywood roof lining in the Shatsuma to discolour due to damp and also had a JK cover tear itself to shreds on one of Mr Weedings restoration projects which was kept in our garden during some blustery weather.

yep its the delux breathable one, according to JK's website which, if the reviews are pukka, all say how good it is! I think I'll sort the hook up out sooner rather than later & have an oil filled radiator switched on once a week
