cot bunk beds

  1. Howdy folks,

I've got a devon style pop top on my bay and want to fit a pair of bunks. I had a look on JK and they sell the pair with fittings for 79 pounds although it says bunks for your little ones.

My question is are these capable of holding a fully grown adult (says length is 175cm) or is there an alternative out there? I often see campers advertised as 4 berth with two bunks and they dont mention anything about being for kids.

I know they arent going to be spacious but will they be at all suitable? If not, can someone please direct me to any alternatives...

    Thanks.

  2. i have the same devon, then started the same sort of discussion..

from what i gathered.. the JK bunks are designed for kids.

They also look to be poor quality, the fixing brackets look weak and terrible.

I got originals from a salvage yard for £20. I was lucky in this case as the owner of the yard didnt know what they were or how much they were worth. mine had no fixings but ive bought some 5mm thick steel to make the fixings.

I'd say.. hold out for originals, and you may have to make brackets/have brackets made.

  3. cheers,

you didnt end up buying woodys' then?

How difficult was it to fit them or have you made the fixings yet?

    Appreciate the help.

  4. Theres a thread somewhere where somebody has managed to get a fixed double in the space instead of the hammocks as there not really suitable for adults ,will have a look now

by the way, theres some on ebay for £30. but they are missing the 2 big poles, but these would be easy to buy from a metal yard etc.

An adult can fit in the bunk but it is not comfortable .

The side of the roof overhangs the bunk slightly and the tube jams into the other side of you.

The length is good but the width is a bit tight.

I can see why someone would have created a double bed platform in the space under the Devon poptop.

The tubes are quite substantial gas pipe.
