Convert to Twin Port

My camper has a new 1641cc engine but has the wrong carb (PICT 31) so he's going in to get a new carb (PICT 34) fitted next week.

I'm thinking though that a twin port conversion would be a better modification.

Can anyone give me a rough idea on how much this would cost and likely improvement on performance?

    Thanks, Rich.

  2. I'm no expert but at a guess I'd say you'd need:

    Twinport heads
    Twinport inlet manifold
New oil cooler stand and oil cooler
Doghouse fanshround and the 2 tins that fit on the back of the doghouse
    Twinport cylinder tins
New fan (doghouse fan is thicker)

    Anything else?

Nothing wrong with single port. The heads don't crack, slightly less power, but more torque than TP. I liked mine. :)

  4. Do you mean twin port or twin carbs?

A 1641 will surely have barrels and possibly heads that are twin port already?

    Just my thoughts....!

    Cheers

Okay - So Single Port will remain.

Any tips on how I can get more out of it?

    Cheers, Rich.

Twin carbs and better exhaust is where I'd start.

  8. What carbs and exhaust on a bog standard 1600 would help him. i.e the cheapest and easiest route to a tad more power. I wouldnt mind knowing either. :) Especially a zorst that retains the exchangers.
