Convector heater?

An update on this and a slight change of plan. After a bit of experimentation with the van parked in the garage, it soon became clear that 400W just wasn't going to be enough heat to effectively warm the interior in a reasonable timeframe. So I've upgraded to a cheapie 2KW heater which is switchable between 750, 1250 and 2000 Watts. It's a Challenge DL06 (available from Argos and others for around £25) which is still small enough to sit at the end of the Devon seat box. At full wack, it really pumps out the heat, warming the van from 10*C to too hot in just a few mins. And while it would be possible to go for a permanent installation I think I'll just use it as is, with the flexibility to move it into the cab, between the seats or just remove it altogether...

 

What oil does it use?

 

Yep, had something similar for when we were forced to live in the T3 for a month during the 2018 winter in Wales on an MOT ramp!
They're ok. But with anything like that in a camper you've just got to be careful moving around.
A spilt brew or a carelessly discarded pair of pants could end very badly!

We went for an oil filled small radiator when in hook up. Slower to heat up but much safer and can be left in all night...you can even dry your socks in it.....

All I'm going to say is that I had a similar looking/priced De'Longhi one and it went up in smoke after about a week. There were actual flames inside... in the camper... I was not happy. I took it apart and there were mains attached with spade connectors and unsuitably small wires which had melted and shorted out. So I got my wallet out and bought a £60 Dimplex (?) one.

Keep your eye on it!

Mine is about 35 years old and the thermal cutout has definitely worked when it fell over.
Clearly says Philips Made in Netherlands...
Main problem for me is kicking it out of the bus when I get out of the slider...

 

I managed to run a 230v/100w towel rail through an inverter plugged into the 12v dash socket, but it was obvious it wasn't a sustainable source of heat.

 

As you said originally - you are basing this on using serviced pitches that you'll be paying a set nightly rate for, so you've done the right thing in getting one with decent wattage range.

 

Warm dry towels, but no petrol and a flat battery!
