Yesterday I did a couple of little jobs on the van. Then I topped up the oil and overfilled it a bit - not too far up the dipstick, but engine is under warranty, thought I'd drain a bit out...... I got my plastic container under the engine and loosened the drain thinking I'd just pop it back in easy enough. Then handful of oil and plug in jug! Groped about for it, got hold of it, dropped it again, knocked over jug. Now lying in puddle of oil but got plug back in - breathe sigh of relief and regroup! Top up engine oil. Look in jug - copper washer in bottom! So, drain engine properly and do a complete oil change! Go indoors after cleaning drive and my wife looks at me and says ' Not again!' Thing is I'm quite good at what I do for a day job, just hopeless with anything else :-[
Happens to everyone, me and my dad was changing the oil managed not to spill a drop on the drive Then my dad leaves the oil funnel and tube, we used to full up on the drive and had a huge oil patch...
A good friend of mine was described as a bungling mechanic by the press after an incident involving a low bridge and a double decker bus.
Left the hose on it for ages but it still had the mark. But lucky we had it done about 6 months ago and it sunk , so it's getting all dug up and changed for free
I think we have all done silly things at times, it's just when stuff never goes right you start to wounder who's got it in for you, God?? I think cement cleans a drive way, I have Moss with a little Tarmac showing so I never worrie, just don't walk in it :'(
We all slip up from time to time no matter how experianced or qualified we are I once did an oil change and forgot to fit the sump plug back in I poured a whole bottle of oil in before i realised it was pouring straight back out the bottom
I remembet repacing my plugs and points and then trying to start the van for over 30 minutes to then realise i had left the rotor arm off!!!
I leant in a cab window, turned the key and drove a van onto my foot. It stalled because the handbrake was rammed on (rear castle nuts). I had to start/stall it twice more to get it off.
