  1. Cogbox
Does anyone know if they still exist, and where they are? Or any other good gearbox specialist in the SW
    Thanks

I think if your happy to remove from van and post I’m certain @theBusmonkey repairs gearboxes. I could be wrong...

Not for our vans just yet Ray, although I'm happy to help with principles etc. Too busy on the T3 ones fortunately.
@72usWesty we haven't heard from Cogbox for well over 18 months now and haven't been able to get hold of Peter recently...
If you do, let me know

:) I will get round to it. My 091 jig is ready but I need to stock up on basic consumables for our models.
It's a fairly large financial commitment from US and German suppliers for the right stuff.
The later 094 as used in the water cooled T3s are very similar but also quite different in places and all my current stock is focused on those.
Don't want to go off half cocked  if you get my drift, and cut corners. Not my thang..;)

I remember chatting with him once and the stink of GB oil came up in the conversation. A stink I'm not fond of but to him... "Ahhh...the smell of money". He's probably retired!

  7. Thanks Removing from van would be beyond me unfortunately

His reputation was good. I've rebuilt several of his rebuilds. A lot went through his hands over the years

One option I give to customers is that if they can have the box removed, then I can arrange collection via my local transport company. That may be an option for you if you have space to store the bus whilst it's off the road, or find a local garage to do the same..
Have you considered @paneuropaul s gearbox that's for sale that may buy you some time so long as the ratios are suited to your van..

He was - a friend had one - quiet and super tight gear change with 2 fingers, fantastic.

  11. It’s got a fellows Subaru conversion and a rebuilt Bears gearbox so I am probably beater to just get it towed to the Mids probably not a good idea getting someone else to take out the Subaru motor….?

What's up with the gearbox? You'd hope a bears rebuild would last you forever.

  13. Stuck in gear, linkage is fine…

    Whoops!
If it's 3rd or 4th the hubs are notorious for breaking. One of those things. Cracks develop and it eventually cams over.
The rebuild may well have been spot on but fatigue is something we can't test.
I do crack test the hubs though and invariably end up fitting replacements:(

Main shaft from slightly later air-cooled T25
Hub sits between 3rd and 4th

Hope you get it sorted.. paneuropauls box would be fine for you with the scooby gearing wise.

  15. Indeed, the only reason it came out was because I bought a complete doner car for the scooby swap and it seemed rude not to go the whole hog. I'm in Sherborne, Dorset if that helps @72usWesty.

I'm surprised nobody has snapped that up. IIRC you've even chucked the starter in with the deal?

Watch out for Shipley etc as most of them don’t have the right insurance…
