Hello I have a noisy clutch release bearing so I've pulled the engine to inspect. Of course the clutch is worn so I want to replace that too. My Bay isn't quite `standard' - its an 1800 VW Santana watercooled engine mounted on a 1600 Bay gearbox. Of course, the clutch parts aren't standard either (or at least I don't think they are...). The pressure plate is LuK and has the part number 043 141 025A, which appears to be VW but I cannot trace the origin. Its 215mm The friction plate is German Parts Distribution and marked CLD141019, and is 210mm in diameter. I can replace the release bearing - that is standard VW Bay, but I cannot find replacements for the pressure and friction plates. Any idea what they were intended for? And perhaps a daft question - are all pressure plates the same, meaning PCD and bolting pattern?
Yes I saw that - another question then - are all clutch centres the same? So the friction plate would fit on the gearbox shaft? Think I need 24 splines...
I think the difference is the input shaft length but the splines are same. A quick search on the samba doesn't answer the question, it talks more about what do when swapping 3 rib / 5 / 6 rib boxes onto different bellhousings and motors.
043141025A is a standard 215mm pressure plate and a 043141031 215mm friction plate should fit. T2 and T25, 1600 Type 1, 1800 Type 4 and 1900 wasserboxer engines. It might have been fitted to some T4 too.
