Clutch noise

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by 14platoon, Jul 27, 2015.

  1. When I reverse I have a loud noise which I can only describe as, sounds like the plates catching? Not disengaging? Gears work fine. What could this be?
    Thanks

If the van is moving in reverse then the clutch will be locked to the flywheel by spring pressure. So it wont be catching...

If it sounds rough and gravelly :
Backing plates on rear brake drums rubbing with wonky wheel bearings or just pads rubbing differently because the wheels are going around differently.
A stowaway's skeleton rubbing in the wheel arch ?

Worn box. Sorry can't say which bit, probably the diff.

  5. Oh dear, hopefully oil change will keep it going for a while!
