  1. How long does it take to change a clutch on a type 4 single handed? We are supposed to leave for France at 6am!

What is the quickest method- anyone?

(at least it happened locally- got home in second gear!)

  2. Engine out job!!

    Type 4 lump super heavy

    Defo 2 man job

  3. How do you know it's your clutch? Symptoms?

  4. I did do mine on my own once but I definitely wouldn't recommend it as it took far too long and it wasn't easy. With another pair of hands I'd say it's a 2/3 hour job. All the best. If you were nearer I'd offer to help as I know how if feels, my camper packed up half an hour before we left for the lakes last year.

  5. Phew- just finished, test run OK. :)

Glad it happened near to the place I bought it. They let me change the cable on their courtyard but it was no good so they sold me a clutch and I limped home in second gear.

Managed to change it on my own, too (five and a half hours). Not the most fun I've had. I had to take off the towbar and oil filler to get clearance but all is well. Shower time and then getting packed, then it's off to sunny France and a meet up with 'Lost en France'. :D

    Au revoir!
