Hi all, I have a 1978 late bay, for some reason the 1st and 3rd gears no longer convincingly engage. They jump into neutral if I go over any bump. The only thing I can think of is that I tried to start whilst forgetting he was left in gear. Do you think the clutch fly nut need tightening? Or is it a more serious gearbox issue? Thanks Gary
Either your front/rear shift rod connection has slipped, or you gearstick. If gearstick, move backwards, if rods or rear coupling, line them up and tighten the pinch bolt. Sounds like that anyway, been known to be wrong...
As its two gears within the same shift pattern ie stick forward it could be that shift plate under the stick needs readjusting.
Ah could be... just found this post, I will try this.... http://www.justkampers.com/forum/vi...563&p=2326765&hilit=gear shift PLATE#p2326765
The shift plate is more for side to side adjustment? I don't think it prevents forwards/backwards. However the base of the stick and plate will move forwards/backwards together. If you lift the rubber matt, you should be able to see if they've slipped.
