Clutch down noise

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Pedro del monkeybike, Jul 27, 2017.

  1. Hi all
    Now then
how much noise should you hear from clutch/crb when the clutch is depressed ?
New clutch and recon gearbox recently fitted
Noise Seems to be more prominent when warmed up
    On a scale of 1-10 about 3
Only I have not noticed it
    Before
    Should it be near silent?
Maybe it's normal just me being paranoid

  2. Not much. If it howls with the clutch down, the release bearing's knackered.

  3. PS did they put any oil in the gearbox ;)?

  4. Yes they put oil in
    Twice
    In 5000m
    Or changed it once

  5. Did the first lot fall out ;)?

  6. It doesn't howl
    More like a yada -yada-yada-yada
    When clutch depressed
    But not excessive

I tell ya I wish I never had it changed
What is it with clutch kits?
    I kid you not
2 have gone in the skip for being wrong
    Recently
It seems nobody can supply you with the correct one ;)
Ps clutch cable is adjusted to the max

Looking like the whole lot going to be ripped out and start again
    Ken idiots
I only asked the see you next Tuesdays
    To do what I want
Why can't they do it o_O

If you get "chattering" with the clutch depressed it usually means that the clutch release bearing is knackered.
Its only four bolts after all...............;)

You may have a miss matched clutch and gearbox, sounds like the bearings going

  10. Probably best to have the whole lot out again. I've never had probs with clutch kits. The Sachs one I got about a year ago from VWH went straight in. Worth asking where they got theirs from.

I got a clutch release bearing from my old one was working perfectly fine
you can have it if that helps

So as the above V dubber's have said It sounds like the clutch release bearing.
When you take the motor out to check/change the release bearing have a look at the needle bearing in the end of the fly wheel nut.
Just check the needle bearing hasn't gone knackered too.

Also, when you got it apart, have a look at the fingers on the pressure plate for signs of uneven wear or anything untoward, and the same if you have rivets on the clutch plate springs. Before you go crazy when you pulled the motor, have a real good look at everything including the thrust bearing holder on type clips, they can be little bar stew ards for not sitting right and giving up the ghost.

    Ozziedog,,,,,,,pop up a pic when it's apart!:)
