Clonk and other stuff

  1. So drivin to work this morning there was a clonk and my clutch pedal bite point went from top/middle to middle/bottom! Had a quick look after work and a few strands have snapped on my cable! Was lucky to get home really I Spose. Anyhoo while I was under lizzy I noticed the dipstick bellow tube was split so bodged that up for now, and the rear suspension has been lowered so I measured up the dampers to see what kind I need to get and noticed it's riding on the bump stops, so gonna have to bash them off, might not even need dampers now. Nice cheap fix if it cures the poor rear end ride......

  2. Oh dear, sounds like a right shed

  3. Sailed through its MOT though!

  4. Are you going to fix your clutch cable while you're at it ;)?

  5. :)

Don't you need bump stops, you know, to stop it bumping?

Won't it sound Marmite and do damage every time you go over a bump and there is nothing to stop metal hitting metal?
    :)

I think he wants to pogo and skid down the road without shock absorbers.

when I once had a 10 year old £100 N reg Morris Marina the rear bump stops fell off . After a while the banging hammered a dent in the wheel bearing race. The normal technique was to brake hard just before a bump to get the nose to dive and the back end to go up.

  7. This really isn't a good idea...

  8. Insert the missing word NEW

  9. No because if you are hitting your bump stops there's something wrong with your suspension. The rubber stops are there to stop the chassis and axle hitting in extreme circumstances, like, your spring/coil/torsion bar is shagged. If everything is operating correctly then the rubber stops will never touch the axle.

  10. next time you take the bus off the road, jack the rear up, take the wheel off and lift the spring plate up....if there's little or no resistance your torsion bars have snapped or some have been removed to lower it, which is a sure fire way to totally f*ck up the handling...you need to get it sorted....your bus is basically suspended on two bits of rubber
Sorry if you feel you received lots of negativity @minirob , but it's the truth

  11. Told you it was slammed  As long as the springs are ok and move up and down with no bump stops fitted cant you just fit smaller ones to give clearance ? Does look cool though

With the clutch thing, one day on my beetle i noticed the return spring hooked on the clutch arm was snapped. When i replaced it the pedal came up quite a bit, might this have gone

  12. oh oh!
    but she still looks cool!

  13. No mate it's defo the cable snapping and I ain't worried about the suspension it's all first year stuff ;) I was looking at some diagrams last night and notices that the bump stop looks like its in 3 pieces and mine have had one piece cut of but it's not enough, make spence?

    I know she's cool:chewie:

  14. Chop it again  It probably used to clear and now you filled it up with useful crap ;)
