Clip/ Bracket for Heater Cables?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Richard Simons, Dec 3, 2011.

  1. Hi, just spent a productive morning re-attaching heater cables and pipes and auxillary fan- and bingo! heat to the cabin! only problem is the clip/ retaining bracket/ whatever is missing to attach the cable sleeves to the heater control lever mechanism under the dash. Could someone post a picture of what this is supposed to look like- or better still tell me where I can get one? Thanks.

    Hhese help. :bag:

  3. Thanks for that- it is really the ? clip that holds the cable sleeves in place that I can't visualise I think I can see the edge of it on the pic, but not much more- is it a plastic clip or wot?

  4. It's a metal clip that gets lost real easy, a sturdy cable tie does the job unless you fancy hunting around breakers yards.

  5. ^this. A cable tie will do the job.

  6. great! thanks for the advice! one other weird thing- I have three cables here-(so far, so good)- one to each of the 'elbows', and a third which disappears under the cab with the other two never to be seen again! I found the flap mechanism on the 'totem pole' but there is no cable attached to it.
so where does the third (very original looking) cable go??
(it's ex dutch army if that makes a difference.)

  7. As chrisradioman says above I have some of the clips he shows. These are for the short (500mm) cable that goes from the control levers to the totem flap (to control the distribution of the heat).
If you go to page 21 in this section and find the posting "Help with heater control cable" (August 27th)you will see some pictures etc.
When I've got more time tomorrow I'll check out the arrangement in my LHD '79 of the cables.

  8. Yes, I must confess I posted before I came across the earlier thread sorry for the duplication folks!
Still not sure where the other cable goes tho...?

  9. Below is a picture of the relevant page for heater cables from VW's parts book. Plus some pencil annotations by me.
Numbers 7 and 8A are the two cables that go to the heat exchangers.
Number 12 is the short cable to the totem as discussed above.
I guess your "third" cable is number 2A which goes to a heat distributor pod underneath the bus to control heat distribution to the passenger area. Having a pick up I don't have this cable.
Number 10 is the clip that I think you are after at the start of this thread.
Its part number for a late Bay is 211 259 325. I don't know of a source for these. (The pre '75 clip 311 259 325 can be obtained).

  10. The red air direction lever controls two cables: one goes to the riser flap at the front of the cab, the second vanishes under the floor and controls the diverter valve under the cab floor between the seats. This deflects air front and/or rear.

  11. Great! I think that covers it! Now for a game of hunt the rear vents....

  12.
  13. Hm....right under the false floor the PO put in the back for some unknown reason.......
