Hello Can anybody explain what might be causing a clicking/light knocking noise when I reverse my van. It's probably about once every half turn of the wheels.
A warning for pedestrians behind you? Check cv boots first if you have split ones dirt might have got in and worn them.
+1 for CV joints, mine one day went from the occasional knock when reversing to a horrific banging whenever you pressed the gas. Get under the bus and wiggle the driveshafts inboard and outboard a bit (there should be lots of movement, quite normal but no lateral movement). If the noise stops for a bit but then comes back its definitely them.
I've been thinking that my CV joint(s) have been getting worn recently too, I've been getting a knock with every turn of the wheel when going forward but it has been intermittent. I only hear it when there is load on the engine, it goes when I declutch, but then sometimes it disappears altogether for a while. I found that wiggling the drive shafts stopped it for a while too. Seemed to get worse when I went round corners too. Time for a look at the CV joints then I think!
