Clarkes Garage

  1. I noted in the interesting Lenny restro thread the value of these canvas shelters and have been considering one as a new home for Lottie. However with stock suspension and Holdsworth GRP roof she is 2.1 M tall and the doorway is 1.9. Does anyone know if there is enough 'give' in the rolled door to allow the extra 200mm?

  2. I guess this thread has not struck a chord with many. But I will continue in case it helps others decide. I finally bought one a 4.9x3.7 x 2.5 tall model from Machine Mart in Bristol for £334 and have started assembling. I was cautious as I had previously bought a cheaper white single thickness version and briefly assembled the bones before I decided it was such poor quality I could not live with it. So took a hit with return postage and got shot of it. I am pleased to say this Clarkes version is so much better in all respects. Well painted tubes that all fit together perfectly and good fixings and ground anchors. So I will be fitting the skin today and in the meantime here a couple of piccies of frame and anchoring arrangement. The anchors are cadmium plated, about 16" long with a single spiral plate near the end and bored down into the ground quite well. I have kept my paving slabs and made holes through for the anchors. I think @1973daisey used to use a Clarkes Garage. Never used one as when I had my VWs I didnb't have a driveway, and I don't think they do one big enough for my Tranny.

  4. Now it's obvious how big it's going to be.

Has you Mrs gone mental yet, or is she waiting to see the skin fitted, before she fully explodes?

They are really good quality i done a full restoration in mine.
I worked all winter in it with a Chinese diesel heater keeping me warm
The door is a tad low but I stuck blocks of wood underneath the legs at the front and drilled through to the ground.
Sandbags help hold it down and also help keep out the wind.[IMG][IMG][IMG]

  6. Ahh that will probably be the neighbour!! though being a nice shade of green perhaps it will OK, white would never have worked. I like what you have done with the sandbags and single wide pole through the door base also nifty CH in a crate. I will follow suit with sandbags though the door is a bit of an issue as I have to reverse in whilst turning through about 120 degrees plus my poptop is 150mm taller than the door. So for now I have fitted the door end panel so that it can easily be removed.
Nice and snug for winter especially as I will also use my old Maypole breathable cover:
