Cigarette lighter fuse or maybe not?

  1. Driving back from Airteriors the other day and had my 12v heater plugged in to the fag lighter. It was happily blowing for most of the journey until I stopped and turned the engine off. Got back in to drive off again it had stopped working. I unplugged it and plugged it back in and still nothing. Swapped it for my sat nav but that wouldn't charge either. I changed several fuses today to try and eliminate if one had blown but still no luck. So, my question is, do you think it is a fuse or something else? Tried the heater in my Disco and it works so I know it's either the lighter or the fuse or the wiring. Which fuse is for the lighter? What do I try next?

  2. The fag lighter will have been put in by a previous owner, so how it's wired will depend on how they've done it. I'd fuse the socket at 8A, as the socket can't handle much more: suspect your heater has overloaded it. Trace the wiring from the socket back under the dash to check for signs of damage.

  3. Traced it best I could but couldn't see anything obvious. I guess I need to spend a bit longer upside with my head in the footwell!

Be careful fella, check your amp draw and wire capacity..........

  5. Have another look - the added wiring should be pretty obvious...
