I always make 'em myself. Last year I turned it out of the tin and it basically collapsed into a pile of it's ingredients. I managed to ram it all back in the tin and cooked it again and it worked. Phew. Just about to de-tin this years...
Thank gawd for that. Worrying times! I'm now going to eat some home made mince pies with home made brandy butter having just polished off home made fish pie. I do like cooking. Tomorrow I will make marzipan and icing... or maybe feed it brandy for a while first.
I hope you are going to make a little marzipan bus on the back of a little marzipan low loader as decoration. cake looks great by the way. I’m very jealous
Looks lovely @Zed. I do like a home made Christmas... cake, pudding, mince pies... lovely. Will you be adorning it with a little model of Santa on a sleigh, a couple of 'bottle brush' Christmas trees, and a plastic 'Merry Christmas' sign? I do hope so
My ex sister in law once made a Christmas cake for her rather religious RC biased crew on a boat she worked on. It celebrated the birth of Jesus in full technicolour gynaecological detail. Baby Jesus was waving hello as he came out. If I still had the photo I wouldn't be allowed to post it on here.
I heard a discussion on radio five yesterday about a birthday cake that was made for DJ Nick Grimshaw. Apparently it was er not for family viewing. It was three thirty and they couldn’t exactly go into details.
The fruit got soaked overnight in about 1/4 bottle of brandy and as I don't drink (technically) I'll gave to do something with the rest - can't use it all on brandy butter, I'd be sick if I ate that much... so yes, I really should feed it.
Easy to make TBH. You have plenty of time still, I'm way ahead of my usual schedule. But no, no marzipan bus, t-shirts, mugs or tat here is the rule. I've got a real one.
Or port... hmm... I used to love Port at Christmas. What with the brandy situation maybe I should start drinking again. Only gave up because it got boring and to see what non-alcohol life was like and the answer is...cymbal roll.. no different.
True, and a fuller wallet. Perhaps just have a Christmas drinking month, like dry January but the other way round.
