Whilst RNJ had my van he did suggest that when possible I replace the cheap after market carb with a proper original solex carb. Is this the right one? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170975858862?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 My van is a 1600 sp. Or are there better mod / upgrades I should consider as I intend to keep the van for a long time. Looking forward to reading your views and experiences.
Have a chat with MEGA AIRCOOLED, he rebuilds proper German solex carbs, I got a good deal @ £90. Dont by the cheap repos http://thelatebay.com/index.php?topic=19407.0
Don't confuse this carb with the cheap copy's. It is not the top quality repro genuine Solex 34 Pict 3. Quote from the site! So is it top quality or not?
Not sure about that as I was lead to believe you can't buy new genuine solex ones anymore so these must be patterns. Which I appear to have already. There is one or two genuine used ones on eBay so that may be the solution if I can't get one from mega aircooled.p
Have a chat with machine seven and big rich at cool air The new casting of empi carbs is very good compared to the other repros that are available The o rings deteriate rapidly but are a cheap and easy replacement and some of the choke cam steps and adjustment screws are poor but can be swapped with the items from your original solex Ive overhauled and fitted bushes to two original solex carbs and had problems with both carbs Other people have got lucky Proffesional refurbed carbs will get cleaned in a hot acid bath and this isnt easy to replicate at home to the same standard This is from the guy who had carbs stripped to the bare bones in pots of vinager Buy an empi one from either of the places i mentioned (mine came from coolair) Swap the o rings over and the stepped cam etc if needed and enjoy your bus The earlier empi repro carbs were horroble in everyway with poor casting and components and they often leaked from the machining port bungs
I bought a brand new Empi in Nov 2012, took it back a few days later, nothing worked on it correctly, rebuilt solex - no prob
