Changing clutch cable

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Rimbo, Jul 12, 2012.

  1. Hi all

Just a quick query. Got to change the clutch cable on my RHD 1975 T2 Bay and need to jack it up to get under it. I was wondering which side to jack up (with axle stands obviously) to gain access to everything? Drivers side I was thinking?

    Thanks in advance

    Cheers

If its standard height you should be able to get under it on the floor or drive up a kerb.

  5. Not if the clutch cable has snapped ;)

  7. Clutch lever is on the passenger side.

So the answer is both sides.

  9. I did mine without jacking it up but ive a standard height bus and im a slender chap

  10. Fixed mine in the parking area while waiting for the ferry to take us home. The lever on the trans is on the left while standing looking in at the motor). In your case the peddle end would be on the opposite side in the front ...So... yes I'm guessing you'll have to have both ends up.

  11. If you're a slimmer gentleman with a stock height van, you won't need to jack. If you don't fit under your van, God is trying to tell you something (related to pie consumption) :)...

  12. Thanks all. got it sorted in the end. Basically jacked it on the passenger side and it gave access - my bus has been dropped three and a half inches and I'm not as slim as I'd like to be, so jacking was the only option. :)

  13. As I am what you could say well built, just done mine (and I think remedied the issues I had) by driving up ramps. The gubbins are definitley on the passenger side at the back! Took me half an hour.
