Well. ‘Stays sharper’. They both go blunt as fast as each other, if you hit soil. But a bigger, more powerful saw, will out cut a smaller, less powerful one. Oh, by the way... You ever done a chainsaw, use, safety, maintenance course? Just asking...
Ha ha hey Geord Perhaps you can give a lesson on what way the chain goes on I know you can advise nipper
I tell you nipper it’s not an uncommon Mistake amongst the professionals When they want to get on, The lad I work for a climber had one of the guys hand him a saw with the chain on backwards last week
Makita DUC302Z Top handled arb saw so not advised for all but as we have a number of LXT batteries it's the perfect choice for SRT tree work and general smaller logging . Factor in cost of cells but nowhere as noisy as petrol models, no emissions, and very light. Good warranty from Makita and at £159 it's replaceable when you drop it 80' feet out of a giant Yew.
No never done a course. But In the past I used to work in a machine shop in caravans done course there..... jeez that was a long time ago. Pretty switched on with safety and like I said it's for keeping my log burner going use my circular saws more than a chainsaw..
I bought a second hand Jonsered from the bloke we bought our house from. Gave him 90 euros and I've had six years of trouble free log cutting for two log burners out of it. Had no idea at the time but it turns out that they are part of Husqvarna, you don't pay the premium for the name because they're only really popular in Scandanavia but they're just as good.
I've been running a Husky 351 for the last 20 years and its been a great saw, I added something a bit bigger a couple of years ago Stihl 661, I tend to come over all Jezza and want to shout "POWER" when using it, it is truly unreal
So... What’s the difference between a husquavarna and a stihl ? I asked this, on my chainsaw course. The reply was. “The husky has a mid centred clutch and the stihl has it on the outer side under the right cover”. I then asked the instructor , “Is the mid vented clutch positioned where it is, to balance out the Giroscopic effect of the saw, when turning it from upright, to a side position?” To which the instructor said...”Erm...I’ve never been asked that before, but good point!“(scratches head). I then went out to the ‘training forest’, and felled a 200ft tree. Needless to say, on my test, the guy just looked at me, then looked at the tree, and passed me on felling. Also learnt about straps, winches and unhooking a 200ft tree. Great enjoyable day.
