center pin support broke off the beam

  1. Today my steering felt funny, so i looked under it to see what's going on.

on what i thought was a rust free front beam

any advice on how to approach this repair?

take the beam off, cut it all out and weld in a new piece from another beam? just weld it up with 2mm steel? throw it all out? The rest of the beam seems solid, it's a strange thing to break, i don't think this is very common.

I was planning a trip in the bus in 3 days. :-

  5. Ive seen simmaler happen when the pivot pin hasent been greased for a while
However yours does look like its rotted from the inside out

Id try and get one cut off another beam to replace yours with maybe someones got a beam where the towers are rotten but the steering idler housing is fine

  6. i'll probably change the whole beam one day.

untill then I bent it back and welded a piece of 1.5mm steel & re-greased. Should be ok for a while, steering feels much better.
