Celebrating Colonialism ... Protesters got a point or not?

  1. My lady friend came here in 1977 and worked for the NHS until retirement, she has family here and they all speak excellent English and they are hard working, bought their house, their kids are musically talented and well educated and now at university.

My neighbours are from the Philippines, been here for 20 years, recruited to the NHS at the local hospital, they are very hard working and committed, bought their house, speak excellent English.

None of them cause any trouble whatsoever and they are the kind of people we want here.

  2. Exactly - those who worked in the mines and mills were virtually slave labour - in fact the Wigan cotton mills came out on strike because of slave labour in USA

  3. Great post.

Having married into a middle class, Home Counties family - the unconscious ignorance of the historical social conditions of industrial parts of Britain is astounding. I'm talking about people who have literally never got their hands dirty, having only ever worked in corporate head offices. They sneer at 'benefit scroungers' but think nothing of claiming extra mileage allowance and lunch expenses every month.

And don't get me started on the sole traders who seem to go though a lot of tax-deductible 'company' mobile phones and Ipads every year - especially around family birthdays and Christmas......................

Pity we can't pay for nurse training instead of having them starting out with £45K worth of debt.
We may then have enough nurses. :gnome:
