I've got one and it's great. I usually sart on channel 20 - there is usually activity on that channel. A few more vw mates are getting them for the T4's T25's and T5 - so when we convoy to shows etc we can chat!
I used to love all the old terms as well. Was it sandbagging when you just listened and didnt join in or am I thinking about something to do with tea bagging
I was in Maplin yesterday looking for inspiration and spotted that they have a deal on at the mo for a CB & aerial kit / package £65... http://www.maplin.co.uk/tti-80-channel-cb-radio-and-antenna-kit-509792 Probably not the best on the market but its an affordable start and ideal for occasional use...
Yep, those were the days, good old cb entertainment! Last i used mine was early 90's when i was driving a dumptruck on a big open cast mine in Northumberland! We used them for daily banter as well as warn others where the foreman was, as he was a b'stard to say the least! Defo going to dig it out again, SWR meter also, get me a new twig and pop it in the bus for the crack at shows!
Just visited Jims site @ www.4x4cb.com Have to say, what a great range he has, and he answered my questions within the hour via email. The discount code if anyone else should need it is KHT56Y and add your username for a 5% discount! I've set my sights on a sirios mythos Ariel, with a gutter mount. Only worrying thing is it needs a good earth, so a minuscule amount of paint will have to removed where the pegs clamp onto the inside of the gutter! Going to order this weekend, after I've dug out my rig and make sure it still works )
Wow flashback to when I had an Auntie Mary rig when I was 14, with a firestick on a biscuit tin...got the states, then all went up in smoke....not enough ground plane....oh the joys of eyeballing and winding up truckers
Well I dug out my old rig the weekend a 'Harvard 420M' 40 channel. Found the SWR meter and a power echo mic to go with it, so I've proceeded in ordering this beauty to complete the setup.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Orbitor-Springer-Stinger-CB-Antenna-Gutter-Mount-Kit-/230380444829?pt=UK_ConsumerElectronics_SpecialistRadioEquipment_SM&hash=item35a3be9c9d ....and get me back on the airwaves once again. Thats a big 10-4!!!
its a shame that cb use went downhill in uk, in europe is still used as it should - plenty of users warning on traffic, police checks and speed traps. essential for travel in EU in my opinion. I have couple of fantastic radios for sale if anyone need some, details on request.
Most of us that do the Eireball run (www.eireball.com) all have them . They're essential (and great fun too ;D) when everybody's in convoy. Also handy if someone breaks down at the back of the convoy and needs help. Most of the standard units that Maplin or Thunderpole carry are perfect within short distances.
