  1. Hi again all,
as some may know i've been asking for advice on insurance ............ had a chat with the guys at Cherished today, who were very helpful but to get the agreed value that i need i would have to get a|:
    category 1 Thatcham approved immobiliser-alarm
i'm sorry but this doesn't mean a lot to me, ....is this possible - to fit this kind of system in a late bay...as usual any help or advice greatfully received.

  2. A thatcham cat 1 alarm system will cost you big bucks, google it.

You can put a system in any vehicle but something the size of a bus I would imagine will raise the price, then you have the issue of running wires, hidden.

A cat 1 will need to be fitted by a specialist so that you get the certificate that the ins company will require.

  3. thanks bodyrock,
    # thats what i thought...more expense :( looks like cherished are a no no, have to go elsewhere for my insurance.

Might be worth asking them what a Thatcham Cat 2 immobiliser might do to the premium.

Must confess, am not sure that a Cat 2 is a good idea on a bus given where the electrics are on them.

  5. are you incredibly young or do you live in a rough place :)
i have never been required to fit a cat1 to any dub
have another look around for insurers

  6. I'd agree. No reason to turn down a valuation - I'd look elsewhere.

I'd skip the whole thatcham thing on a bus - bit of a racket generally, IMHO.

Buy a decent-enough alarm & fit it yourself.

  7. I've just insured through cherrised on the pick p and didn't need any alarms or garage.

I'm guessing you're going for a crazily high valuation?

  9. I believe it is on street parking in London. A lot of insurance companies see this as a huge risk.

  12. I had a Thatcham in a kit car. I had constant problems with it because of damp getting into the electronics while the car was stood and not used for periods of time.

  13. Thanks guys,
i think i've got it sorted now, thanks Baydreams, spoke to Towergate today and they have come up trumphs........they will insure up to £20K parked on drive without the cat1 system so it looks like it will be them I go with......they answered all my questions. good times :)

  14. ;)

  15. yes we will be fitting immobiliser and alarm any way, just not such a complex system now.
    Thanks all ;)

  18. yes , seems a little high, maybe, ( dont think I actually mentioned the value but its not 20k ) but its just what we've been advised as a replacement value should the worse happen and we have got to replace it, like you said they are hanging about at that price but thats what they fetch.
    Be lucky bruv :)

  19. forgive me for being abit thick looooooool
what as the value of a bus ...got to do with a agreed value?????one stops your bus from getting nicked ..the other is a value that between you and the insurance comapny agree to pay if a bus is written off, burnt out or nicked or does a thatcham cat 1 prevent crashes and extinguise fires?coz that would explain it ...

  20. Like I said , insurance sorted with Towergate, nice people, no need to worry about the cat 1 alarm now.
Thanks all for your input.........got a new prob to worry about now......need a bell housing for a 2ltr CP code gearbox......happy days :(
