Castrol Classic XL

  1. Does anyone use this oil? Is it worth the extra compared with other manufacturers Classic engine oil.
Or are you just paying the extra for the retro tin. It is nice though.
And of course the Castrol name. Is it still the same company that made GTX back in the day? 565FA55D-AE60-4FCA-8AF8-8E730C24D3C3.png

I run it in Gusbus, seems okay to me. The one thing I have found, with our type 4 motor, is that it doesn't go "black" as quick as other brands and oil consumption has been reduced slightly too.

I think we paid £22.99 for 5l (price of a pint less than Miller Oil..win win) :D

It’s good but probably no better than any other premium brand classic oil.

Castrol has been owned by BP for about 18 years.

Its Castrol GTX in disguise, been good enough for my bus for the last 42 years!

  5. Excellent quality oil, always use it, and it costs only a little more than other brands. Used xl 20W50 in my mgb for past 15 years and oil pressure is always maintained at 65 psi even when very hot engine and the hot summer days. And use it in my van as well of course.

Is your engine still making glitter or have you fixed it?

Will this be OK for a newly rebuilt 2056cc type 4 or should I start with something 15/40? C'mon we all love a good oil thread :)
