They were still sending them out in May ….. unless I’m special.

Apparently around the end of July/August there was a temporary 'issue' with renewal notices (according to our friendly lady at the post office.)
I didn't notice my daily's tax had expired for a couple of weeks (luckily I'd been driving the camper mostly), as I didn't get an end of July reminder, and also I discovered last Thursday that the tax on my truck at work has suffered the same misdemeanour, with its tax also due at the end of July.
I believe it's all sorted now and renewals are still being sent.
(My work truck was off the road until last week so no harm done luckily!)

    Ooops!
Think it's something to do with the DVLA setting up an online reminder service as part of their digital information account thing. If you sign up you can view your licence, penalty points etc online, and get tax reminders by email. I think it's an 'opt out' of paper reminders, but there were teething troubles.

Technically you still need to tax the van every year it just that the cost is zero.

How does it make sense though? Is it just a ‘van head count’ thing?

you also declare that it’s not modified and therefore MOT exempt

    Ok

  12. Maybe just to check the vehicle's still in use, for the DVLA's statistics?

That’s what I sort of meant by van head count.

  14. You can’t set a direct debit renewal ( even tho it’s free) due to the fact you are declaring it MOT exempt every year . Which I guess if you lie and drive a heavily modified bus you have little comeback saying you didn’t know .

I still mot mine but can’t do auto renewal

I didn’t get a reminder, maybe wifey did, but daily is on DD and £150 due to be paid tomorrow…

I got caught out by this as well. I’ve since used the vehicle smart app and created a garage so now receive reminders for tax and mots. Seems to work well. Also an easy way to check details for any vehicle you might be looking at buying. I’ve no association with them but thought it might be of interest.
