Car style sun roof

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by VDubvan, May 4, 2019.

  1. Anyone ever fitted a car style glass/winding opening, sun roof to a tin top or Devon?

I'd like one in my front cab but I'm not sure if it is a thing, and any search on here for a sun roof comes up with rag tops

  2. I looked into this years ago (even bought an 80s aftermarket glass sunroof). The problem is that the front roof of a Bay is too curved for most sunroofs to fit (without leaking like crazy). Nice idea, though.

  3. Oh well, I'll just struggle on with the windows open to let the heating smell out

    Sliding windows in the sides???

  5. Could always fix the source of the smell ;). Shouldn’t have a whiff up the heating.

I have one fitted by the PO it’s the glass tilt up at the back type, the roof is curved but has enough movement the the metal frame can flatten it.

    Would I fit one?
No it’s right pain it makes no real difference to ventilation and leaks all the time

  8. I need to look into this then, as my van smells with the heating on, it's not bad or unbearable, but it is there

  9. Can be fixed. All air for the heating comes from the engine compartment, so that’s where to start.

  10. Suspect the frame has bent ok to fit the roof, but now it’s the wrong shape for the glass?

Had the frame out once with the hole in the roof there’s no shape and it’s all a bit wobbly so it’s not that

Mine does too. A mixture of petrol and oily fumes so I open the side window in case of CO poisoning!

  13. Are you talking about the original van heating or do you have an aftermarket like a propex?

  14. I have one that was fitted when I bought it. Works just fine with no leaks and it’s nice to have a bit more sunlight in the cab. You have to take the glass out every couple of years or so and gently clean all the lichen off the rubber seals or water will find its way in. Mine is dead flat and misses the curve on the front of the cab roof as its quite small.

  15. Mine did unto I replaced the heat exchangers etc and found all the rusty holes in them and the exhaust which leaked up into the air supply.
