  1. Looking at doing a road trip bimbling around Canada next June (ish) .
We will possibly rent a 2 person camper for a couple of weeks , it`s blummin expensive but not out of the question .
Plan B is just rent a car and stay in hotels , cheaper but boring !!
Sooooo ..... Anyone done this or can recommend routes or `must see` sights ?
Not after a comprehensive guide but any pointers much appreciated ..

Did a long weekend in Toronto a few years back, the CN tower and Niagra Falls are well worth a visit.

My brother and his family went for a two week break and stayed 3 month's. They loved it.

  4. I would so much love to do the camper thing around Canada. Youve always the option of doing the odd night in a hotel/motel (holiday inn - say whaaaat)!

  5. Do bear in mind if you want to go from one side to the other its a blimming long way! Canada's east coast is closer to Britain than it is to the west coast.

It depends which part of Canada you are going to, it's a big place but The Maritimes are lovely.

  8. I spent 2 1/2 years in Canada with the army, we were based in Alberta Medicine Hat 300 miles from Calgary I took a RV (Motor Home) through Calgary into the Rockies fleeting visit to the US, Customs are a long drawn out job but them went into BC via Penticton to Nelson, Ainsworth hotsprings drove the Redcoat trail back into Alberta, Banff Jasper all beautiful Areas Athabasca Glacier, hot springs in Banff just so much to see and do, from Nova Scotia to British Columbia would be my Ideal coast to coast but it is a VERY BIG Country, low speed limits but excellent camping facilities. Plumb the water in, lay the sewer pipe, plug the electric in and light the camp fire with ready cut wood, all in the middle of a forest fabulous.
Beware of the liquor laws in certain states.
You need to choose where you are going which state and plane from there. I understand you can fly to Calgary, pick up a RV and then return and fly back research and enjoy.

  9. hi Dave were you in Suffield I was there 1987 to 89

  10. Thanks for the replies chaps/esses ...
No REAL plans as yet but some of the areas @Tilly mentions i`ve heard about so a good starting point ....
I fully understand the HUGE area Canada covers but wouldn`t mind spending some time exploring the wilderness - it does sound idyllic . Calgary does seem a good starting point with plenty around so Alberta and British columbia seem favorites at the moment - not the WHOLE LOT you understand - just dipping in ..
The cost is getting a bit silly with the `popular` rental companies - looking at about 2k EACH all in for a basic 2 person van , so many bliddy add-on`s  .
I`d love to go down the `buy one - sell it on` route but that`ll never happen due to the missus wanting everything sorted before we go - they do say opposites attract ..!

  11. Been to Halifax and Ottawa, both times to visit a mate who is now in the Canadian navy, did look into a renting an RV on one trip but it seemed incredibly expensive. It got to the stage that it was cheaper to hire a car and B&B/motel it.

  12. Done west coast - Seattle up to Vancouver/Vancouver Island etc etc and east taking in ny state/Algonquin national park/niagara Toronto etc....both absolutely fabulous. I prefer the 'feel' of the west but being honest that's just a bit nebulous. The place is so big you can get wilderness anywhere if that's your thing...just do it!

I played rugby there in the late 80's....at that age I wanted to stay in hotels, but we stayed with families from the schools we were playing against.

If it is at all viable that's the way to see any country....

I'd move there in a heartbeat, the people are lovelly, the place itself is stunning.

  16. going for a week on 1 dec.

its a nice place but lots and lots if nothing in between the interesting bits!

  17. It`s the lots and lots of nothing i`m looking forward too ....
