Can I make a cover and block this off?

  1. Now I'm running aftermarket carbs the pre-heat (I think that's what it is) tinware goes to nothing in the cool side of the engine. Does that mean I can now make a cover and block this off:

I'll need to remove the remaining screw of course and block off the other end, too.

Is this OK? Not introducing overheating?

  2. Yep I guess so, not sure what difference it will make, if the air goes out there its out ?? Better off blocking the top hole I think

Its pointed straight at the fuel pump. I expect things would be better if the hot air was diverted away from heating up something known to suffer from rubber cracking. So a cover there may be a good idea.

Yes. It's easier to leave that piece of tin on and block the hole through the rear tin though as otherwise you have two holes to block and that one is awkward. On the other hand the bit of tin that goes on there is irritating when you want to remove the fuel pump isn't it? lol
Also, when you come to block the top one you'll find there are through holes in the rear tin so you'll need a nut and bolt which is also quite annoying with one each side of the tin. If you leave the pipe tin in place it blocks the bottom hole and provides captive nuts for the plate at the top pictured.

  5. The correct tin was on there until a few days ago so was never cooking the pump but exhausting into the cool side:thumbsup:

  6. Yes, it is in the way and a pain, you're quite right.

That said, most of the pain is because of rusty screws. Mine had never been off by the looks of it. So some copper greased screws then a closing plate up top as you suggest seems a good solution. Thank you:thumbsup:
