Camshaft - 4 Stud

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by EggBoxes, Dec 31, 2015.

  1. I got a new EMPI 4 stud camshaft. Just tried it in position and the backlash is more than the original.
Now see the original has +2 stamped on the gear and when the original is fitted it has a very small amount of backlash, only just.

The camshaft just seems to be available a 'standard' size, guess that's zero (smaller) thus the backlash.

Is it possible to swapped the cogs over?

  2. Yes, you just remove the rivets and then drill and tap the cam and fit high tensile 8mm bolts.

  3. Great thanks Rob, wanted to be sure before I attempting.
Taped up the cam up for protection and used a bit of ply with a hole in to hang the cam through, as nowt to hold onto whilst tapping the M8 holes.
Had some M8 torq 8.8 low profile bolts from an old car seat which fitted exactly, clearing the oil pump and case.
Heated the gear slightly to fit on. Quality job, just a pity no-one will see it in the case.
