Camber

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by StuartC, Mar 23, 2012.

  1. When having the MOT yesterday I realised how bad the camber is on the back. Its worse on the NS too. Maybe this was as a result of smashing into the kerb on the way home from Newquay 10 years ago whist trying to scoff down a prawn baguette. Managed to smash both NS wheels (merc alloys).

The Haynes says that you can adjust it. Is it really possible or best left to the pros?

  2. I'm not sure what "pros" you'd go to... It involves bending something on the diagonal arm at the back, as I recall

Zed will be along shortly to tell us how it's done, I'm sure.

  3. that was going to be my follow up question. "Where do I take it"?
There must be old school types that still have the skills some where.

  4. mmm prawn baguette ,did you have salad with that and the pink sauce?

would changing the angle [spacers]of the sping plate work, are the bottom of the wheels stuck out?

  5. Bit of salad and garnished with a dressing concocted from the finest ingredients of a thousand islands.

Wheels stick out massively at the bottom.

  6. Haynes describes how to do it (bendy stuff). Zed must know (but he's hiding).

Other alternative is to go back to Newquay and smack the curb, driving from the opposite direction. Sorted! Baguette optional...

The camber is adjusted using the camber nuts on the top set (I think) of the ball joints on the spindles.

Unless you have the calibration tools I'd say leave it to pros.

  11. First I would check the rubber two bushes in the axle ,if they are worn the tortion bar will not be straight...yum... ;D

  12. :ttiwwp:

I have a bit of camber on my bus, think it looks cool, magical Trevs has also.

So how much has it got.

I'm down 2 splines and hardly any camber. Yes you can adjust very slightly, but maybe something's worn (Donuts as LEF suggests, or your diagonal arms are both bent (unlikely). Haynes describes how to adjust.
