Announced yesterday after a backlash from boat and caravan owners as most can't fit the larger bottles in their gas lockers. Sent from my Pixel 7a using Tapatalk
It certainly was. Mel made the point the other day that all the folk/carvanners etc that have handed bottles back in will now need to pay full price to buy a new bottle plus gas rather than just exchange. A joke. Calor don't deserve the business!
My boats gas locker was made to fit the 4.5s. I thought similar to your Mel ... and was glad I hadn't quite reached the point where I needed to change or swapped bottles for the larger size, which was an option at one point.
If this results in anyone being in the cack for want of a better word.I have two 4.5 bottles. One that I have had for years with just a blow lamp used once every five years and one that was bought new for a cooker project complete with bottle deposits etc etc and never actually used and sat there under my bench for at least five years or maybe more. If anybody needs one then please give me a shout. The deposit from memory was forty quid I think , but I’ve no idea what the gas was. I’m in Bristol. Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,am I a part time hoarder maybe ?
One calor dealer tried taking my bottles off me saying that even though calor were no longer doing exchanges for the same size If I didn’t exchange for a different size then they were told by calor they had to keep the bottles and return them.
I went on a mini buying spree and pickup up a few almost full bottles plus one empty. Empty one only cost me £9.99 so I can sell on if anyone did exchange all their small bottles...
I couldn’t understand their logic given the profit made on the small bottles. We’re on LPG here in Wales where 47KG is £79. from our regular supplier. Last time I bought a 3.9KG it was £20, that’s some markup. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That's good news and no need to hoard . But now I have a couple of surplus unused bottles ! they are the 2.7kg (907) if anyone is interested ? Unsure on price but does £45 each sound reasonable ? Also an empty one (free) if that is of use to anyone ?
Just as well they avoided the class action lawsuit from the users and families of those who injured themselves being "forced to home refill" bottles by the actions of Calor Gas. After all the fuss made over safety of gas installations over the years, forcing some percentage of their customers to pour LPG with only FB level knowledge was a bit stupid. Somewhere I saw a survey (Practical Boat Owner) where about 11% of those affected said they were going to refill their own cylinders...
Many boat FB groups, magazine etc are announcing that it has been u-turned I am waiting to see, fingers crossed.
Also they probably lost their supplier of that size of gas bottles after Covid and made other excuses. After all, all they had to do to was to put the prices up to Camping Gaz levels to help return those sizes to a profitable pair of products. Plus they are probably doing very nicely by providing global warming by heating smokers outside of pubs selling the bigger cylinders worth of gas. People who only change the gas once a year arent worth it in comparison. Now they know they have a captive market, perhaps they should switch to a subscription model.... like BOC..
Just spoken to Pwllheli marina regarding Calor gas…apparently the statement Calor put out “ was misleading” and they are only exchanging 3.9 and 4.5 kg bottles on a declining stock basis. It’s confusing but my marina are not getting any and, having phoned around they are very difficult to get. So back to camping Gaz
apparently you can exchange them at main calor depots but not at campsites, garden centres, petrol stations, marinas etc Not much use whilst travelling around though
