Calliper question(s)

  1. Hi Guys,
Went for a short drive the other day (about 7 miles) got back and could feel the heat coming through the wheel from the drivers side brake, but was cold on the other side.
Havent had my bus long so thought i'd give a the callipers an overhaul.
Taken them both fully off and have bought some new break hoses to fit. Will put some calliper paint on (any recommendations?)
I noticed one calliper (drivers side) says VW 9 Atc
The other side said VW but also had the audi symbol and had a 7 and Atc
They look identical but i'm assuming ones been changed?
Also the one with the audi rings on look like its missing a bleed nipple. there is just a small hole, i'm guessing this has broken off?! Can get a picture if required. Also one of the callipers had shims in behind the pads the other didn't.
Any advice on what i've got, or what is worth doing and checking now i have got them off much appreciated.

  2. make sure you can press both pistons in with you fingers ,sticking caliper means hoses or seized piston..

Unfortunately you need one brake nipple to bleed the caliper ,don`t worry about the shims most have lost them..Have a look at replacing the dust covers these are cheap and worth it in the long run..

  3. Sometimes its the flexi brake pipes that collapse, the master cylinder has the power to push the fluid through, the pipe then wont let it flow back.

  4. Thanks for your help guys! I also noticed one of the pins that go through the callipers had the end broken off, no one has a spare do they?!

  6. There are 2 pins on each calliper that hold the plate in which in turn holds the pads in. One of the 2 pins is slightly broken :(
