Calling early Devon owners...

  1. Have you got a roof that looks like this...

    image.jpg

Inside the sliding door.. To the top left as you look from inside.. There is a roof strut that Devon would have removed to cut the hole for that roof^

Can someone send me a photo of that area with the headlining fitted etc?

I was looking at it today. And as it has been removed, it isn't really doing anything apart from poking out, and I think it would show through the headlining?
So was wondering whether to remove it or not.
    Cheers in advance.

  4. This bit..

See how the odd shape bit pokes down between the windows. It doesn't on the opposite side.
Might look nicer if I removed it :/

  5. If Ollie was here I would help out, if you have not got it sorted next week give nd a shout he should be back Wednesday ...

  6. I have the same roof, and I know the bit you mean. It is one of the roof cross braces/strengtheners, Devon hacked part of them out and crudely re-sited them to the rear of the pop top opening. The remains were hammered up to the metal lip of the opening made by Devon by bending part of the roof section upwards.

the area around the opening was lagged with 1/2 foam and then covered with headliner, so it shouldnt be seen once its covered.....I'll try to find some pics before I ripped all mine out.

I was working on the area today as I'm getting ready for Mrs Diddymen to make me a headliner to fit around the opening...I've got some pics of the area without the headliner if that helps?

  7. ahh, just seen your pic, I know what you mean now ....I dont think it was covered

  8. Does she fancy making two?

  9. yeh the hammock is infront of it ,and lower down , our curtain is parked on that pillar .

  10. Im 99.9% sure that isnt there on mine, unless its covered by foam, i have removed the lining but left the foam on and have never seen that bit

  11. not a great pic, but if you zoom in you can see that part wasnt covered, the 'tide mark' in your pic was where the headliner would have finished, and the curtain rail would have hidden the bottom of the headliner

  12. possibly, she has to do mine first :D ....I'm always last in the que!! lol

hopefully, once she has done mine she will have a decent template made, to sell more of the same ....but she has to make sure it looks right and fits on our van before she sells any .....trouble is, all Devons seem to be slightly different and I'm worried that what would be a good fit on mine might not be as tailored fit to others vans (as it has to be mitre stitched in the corners ideally)....I'll keep you posted though

The extra bracket is a strengther I've read that VW insisted Devon add as they were making a big hole in the roof and cutting out the roof support.
The remains of the roof strengther can be tidied up to be below the head lining level or near as damn it by cuting slices from the sides, knocking up the middle part and re-welding.

  15. So where you see the dirty tide mark.. Basically I can cut from there down.. Off. Then re-weld to maintain the support?

No, I meant the top half of the dirty bit but looking again it looks like someone already mashed it flat. You're supposed to leave the extra chunk that's planted on the top, but you wouldn't be the first to remove the ugly thing completely.

  17. Hi Carl.

Not sure if these help at all but just taken a couple of photos as will be selling the bunks.

  19. Just been out to mine and it's the same as the photos above. The headliner is stretched over this and it doesn't show as it doesn't touch the sides at this point. However, I can feel it still there under the headliner; it's not even padded!! Once the bunks are up you can't see any of it any way!!

  20. Yeah I won't be having bunks, and I'm wanting my headliner to go down to the base of the windows/top of door cards if possible.
Looks like I'll be getting rid of it.
