Cable route

  1. I want to put a charger under the rear seat to charge my leisure battery what the best route to get the cable into the engine bay ? Can I drill through the slope back under the seat into the engine bay or do I need to go down under the van to get it there thanks.

  2. Somewhere near the spare wheel well so as to avoid the fuel tank compartment. I've gone under a cupboard and down through the spare wheel drain hole as my spare is mounted up front...

  3. If you drill through below the tank there's only a single skin to go through and it matches the holes for the main loom on the other side. Go forward a bit underneath and you'll find a rubber bung in the flooring under the seat area where you can run the wire through. The red wire is the leisure battery positive which goes to the fuses. I have a top loading Westy fridge and the fuses are in the control section.

  4. I’d add that I’ve never needed to recharge my leisure battery whilst camping, but I do have a small charger for home use. I’ve Hella accessory sockets on the leisure and main battery circuits so I just plug my charger into one of those with van on hook up in the garage.

It’s a conventional car battery, not a leisure BTW. That red wire was originally meant stretch to the other end as the terminals are reversed on LB’s.

As you can see I drilled a 25mm hole to the left side of the tank and inserted round plastic conduit to bridge the void

  6. @paul2590 thats what I had in mind a duct so that I could pull a cable through it how long do you reckon the tube is and how did you mark the under seat side ? So that it was in line.

  7. Few years ago now , I think I used a long flat bit drill and punch a dent below the seat from the engine bay. Then used a hold saw. The length of tube was 200-250 mm [IMG]
