Cab headlining - how....

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by bryandsi, Apr 7, 2012.

  1. Have just got a cab headlining from Retro Retrims (£44) and about to remove the old ripped full headliner. Am going to fit a rear top cupboard and use foam covered in headliner material on the centre piece.

Obviously have the original wires from the original and the cab part seems to have some form of J strip above the cab doors. The question is
A - I assume what feels like J strip actually are!
B - am not going to remove the front screen so I will glue and trim - has anyone done this?
C- the rear of the new cab piece has a bit of foam and a cardboard strip in it -how do I fix this, how does this work????

Any help would be much appreciated as I've never tried this before

  2. Cheers, good pics! It just the rear of it that is really the issue, I can see the sides from the pics - the lining wraps on the J's and clips in- the front I will contact glue, don't want to take the screen out!

Did you warp the rear over a wire or is there a trip clip on a poptop/
    Cheers

  3. i fitted the rear of the head lining first

used the plastic scraper that comes with body filler

the bit with the string fits into the slot at the rear and the metal flap in the grove holds it in place

next i used double sided tape and lots of pegs to pull the head lining forwards and tight

once that looked right i did the sides

like i said if you need more advice just ask for my number and give me a ring

  4. Cheers ! Would be great if you could PM me your number, just in case. Won't trouble you unless I get completely stuck!
    Thanks B

  7. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

You'll have to remove the windcreen. :(

  8. Ha!
Your right Zed - pretty poor job with screen in, no way to get the thing really tight

...but it clean and tidy now so will leave it for this season!
