Cab door seals again...

  1. bought new german (grey) cab door seals a while ago, fitted n/s and all was good
finally got round to doing o/s and there is a problem.
i removed the old seal and checked the gap and door alignment, all good. the door sits out a couple of mm at the striker end so the new seal can bed in
fitted new seal and the door wont shut very well. the problem is on the lower hinge part of the door. the seal is pushing the door out so much that the the door is open about 8 inches when it starts springing back.
if i gently swing the door closed it bounces all the way open.
i removed the seal and refitted, its the same. the seal is pushed all the way in to the door and seems to be sitting in the right place on the lower edge. if i slam the door really hard the bottom of the door on the lower hinge part is being forced out about 5mm from edge of the front panel when you look from the front
i have been told to shave a bit off the seal but at £40 a side i am bit reluctant unless any one has first hand knowledge of this.
have i made a schoolboy error somewhere?
    any ideas?

  2. mine were the same, they are still bedding in after a month, but if it can be closed, then they will bed in i think. But if you are worried about damaging the door i would get the opinion of someone with a better bit of experience than me,

  3. Had the same issue, I have a German seal on the passenger door and a repro one on the drivers door. The drivers door shuts much better. I trimmed the German seal down with my Stanley knife with a carpet hook blade and now it shuts better but not perfect. I'm interested to know if there's something I've missed.

  4. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

They mostly do this to varying extents. It'll squash down eventually if you keep the door closed
