Cab door lock actuator rod?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by CandyCamper, Feb 18, 2016.

  1. Hi,

Are there different cab door lock actuator rods for different years of van?

During the body resto my van had two new complete cab doors.

It would now seem that the actuator rod in the drivers door is about an inch too short and won't provide sufficient throw to allow the door to lock.

Disconnected the door lock works just fine.

Check that the internal opening handle thing is in the right place, the fixing hole position for these changed at one point. If you have a door card to hold in place that should enlighten you.

    Fish and CandyCamper like this.
  3. I was thinking this might be the case..... that's a bugger it would appear we have odd doors then!

cant you cut the rod into two pieces, pop a thread on the end of each half and put a threaded spacer in to make the rod longer?

  5. I'll measure up the gauge of the wire and make a whole new rod if I can...... I don't have a die set that would manage such a small diameter. I'm more worried about the door cards looking odd or not fitting now :s

The door cards will not be noticeable, don't fret :D

The handle should be in the same place relative to the doors on all years/doors. The cards are all the same. What changes is just the fixing hole positions in the door and the matching inner pull handle to suit. You just have a mismatch by the sounds of it, totally sortable - bodgery or a matching handle is the way forward.
