Cab door/Cill drainage

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by icepug, Jan 10, 2014.

  1. I have a bit of a reoccurring problem with the van. On the passenger side there is always a puddle of water near the door. Can any one show me where the drainage holes go on the underside of the door and the cill as I don't think the drivers side is right either so I don;t want to copy that side.

    Cheers in advance

  2. just went out to take a pic for you , me camera battery went flat , will take one in a bit if someone doesnt show you already , but basically its on us of doorpart that goes in foot well and in foot well too

  3. had a similar problem...
drainage in foot / lower part of the door, do you park on a hill with rear pointing down? as mine is and water was pooling inside door and running in.
I re did my flappy plastic seal under door card, double skinned it and poked a bit inside no more leaky.

  4. here you go then put ones in step to match even if under rubber , but dont stick yor rubbers down

  5. how big would you say the holes are? 8/10mm???

  6. yeh they are 10mm

  7. Cool, nice one for that. I shall drill them out tomorrow

    Barneyrubble likes this.
  8. As above, the only drainage is in the lower door by the steps, so water will accumulate if you don't park facing downhill. There are no drain holes in the rear door section, as there's nowhere for water to go. If the puddle's by the seat belt/mat, water's coming in through the air vent: you need to have the waterproof membrane in place.

Flood the door innards with waxolyl - they're a crap design and will rot quickly.

  9. Membrane in place, it seems to be overflowing at the bottom of the door card, just drilled some hole and all sorts of crap came out so hopefully that is sorted. As for the wax oil. Should i put a rust treatment down first or does the wax oil kill the rust??

  10. If it's genuinely overflowing, I'd say your door rear sections are filling up with water due to lack of drainage. As above, if you don't point downhill at some point, the doors will never drain.

I'd take the cards and membrane out, dry everything thoroughly and assess any rot. Waxoyl or similar should keep the rust at bay, spray loads of it in!

The whole door is designed to drain to the front - the channel running from front to back under the window glass catching drips off the glass also only has a hole at the front.

If you drill the back of the door at the bottom , the door seal directs water inside the bus, making the seatbelt anchorage wet.
At the front, the door seal correctly directs the water outside from the hole at the front of the door. Probably not a good idea to put holes in the rear of the door, without redesigning the door frame to let the water out..

If you park facing uphill then expect rot. If the water is running in the back then there is a lake in the door. This will stop when the door frame rusts out and the door becomes two doors held together by the door skin for a while. That was the state I found my doors in in 2010.
