The cab doors on my 73 van were total rust buckets, managed to get another pair of doors which are later doors with different hinges , not a problem changed the pins over. Have got everything painted and putting everything back together and realise the check straps are different and assume to catch on the post will be different, can i use later straps with the original catch or has anybody cut the inner of the door to take the earlier ones.
    Thanks for looking

  2. What checkstrap points have you got on the doorframes? Early or late ones (think or skinny)?

    The early ones

  4. Might have trouble getting slim late ones to work with them - dunno. You can do it the other way round (early door mechs with late door points).

Are the late door points the same or where they changed for the slimmer ones?

  6. Here's my late doorframe with a filed-down early checkstrap.

Thanks @snotty for photo so mine is the other way round so I have an early door frame with early strap and late door, so early strap won't fit into late door, so if I get an late strap will it fit into the early catch on frame?

  8. I had to read that three times ;)

Don't know, mate. I've never seen an early checkstrap anchor. Someone will know.

Only reason I've got the above is that the passenger door was changed in the past and only really accepts the old clanky type mech.
