ca gearbox in late bay

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by klop, Aug 23, 2014.

  1. Hi, can I use a ca code gearbox in a large bay with a 1600 engine.
Was told it's a 2l gearbox from a late bay but code would suggest otherwise?

    Thanks :)

edit> sorry just seen the thread title, should have been "ca gearbox in a late bay" Bloody predictive text!!

  3. Thanks, so no use then? Can the bell housing or something be changed to get it to fit?
Are there going to be problems with ratios etc, which is over my head!!!

If yours is a 1600 the ratios will be fine.
Whether it'll fit in a late is way above my knowledge though I'm afraid!
If I had to guess I'd say it'll fit, maybe with a few mods.

  5. It's a late bay box, no mods required

  6. 'CA' is an early code, upto '71 I think. Has the 'box got cradle mounts? It will fit, but you will need to change the bellhousing if it's got no cradle mounts, and maybe the input shaft but I'm not sure.

  7. I have CA's and they're mated to 1700's, don't know when any change would have happened but mine are 'late bay' with the upper mounts. As b#1 says though, if it has 2 mounting holes in the top of the bell housing it's a late and will fit

  8. 1700's should have CK or CL boxes, I wonder if yours has been swapped? It makes sense really, bay 'boxes (with the exception of N' if it's a auto) start with a 'C' then go from 'A' through to 'X'.

  9. Fixed:thumbsup:
