C-Tek charger - permanent install

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Dicky, Jul 4, 2014.

  1. Im installing an MXS 7.0 as a permanent fixture. Connected via a selector switch to both my leisure and car batteries. Will normally be connected to the leisure battery and will provide power for camping accessories including absorption fridge. I have a lead from each battery positive under the rear seat and thats where im intending to fit the Ctek. I havent fully read up on the charger as yet but im not sure what setting (programme) it would normally be on.

I considered access as an issue to be able to change programme rather than siting it in the engine bay.

So question is for those who have done this.
Where did you fit yours and how have you mounted it!
What programme do you have it set on for normal camping use
    Programme for winter (laid up)
    Any other gems of wisdom?

    Thanks in anticipation.

got mine on permanent, its default is normal anyway when on, you have to cycle though to put it on any other setting such as snowflake or recon.

  4. I've had my ctek for a couple of years. Use recondition at the start if my camping season when the van has been laid up and then as rick says normal the rest of the time. I'll be unhooking both batteries this year when it goes away when it gets cold.

  5. So where are they fitted then chaps?

  6. I use supply (not the default so has to be selected) when camping, I think it's a slightly lower voltage but I'd need to check. They do get a bit warm but not hot, great bit of kit.

  7. Under the seat not permanent though, I wired in the pigtail that came with it and connect it when I need it, I use it on other cars then as needed.

  9. i have one permanantly fitted under the rock and roll and the leads go through the wheel well to the battery. i made a board that fits to the bed frame so it can't move, i also have the 240v mains mounted in the same area so to keep together all the lecky bits.....
i can remove it in minutes if needed.

  10. Mine is under the back seat. It has it's own plug socket, wired directly into the consumer unit next to it. It will be accessible by just lifting the back seat and switching it on. I intend using mine as the 12v power supply when on hookup, and also when in the garage I will plug into the mains so the leisure battery can be charged ready for the next camping trip.

Mines permanently wired in and supplied via a hookup cable in the engine bay through a two mcb distribution unit. I made a support for both that locates in the spare wheel well. I've boarded out the area above the engine hatch which includes a slide out coffee table. The Ctek is always on its default setting and as soon as I get home from camping I plug the van into my house electrics and away it goes. I've made a little hatch so that if I want to look at the lights on the Ctek I just lift up the rear cushion and peek in.
I've made up two hookup cables, one which is stowed in the van for when we go away and the other which just reaches from the garage to where I park the van.
As both the distribution unit and the Ctek are below the level of the rear deck they don't use up any useable storage space inside the van.

mines under the bed on the side "wall" of it plugged in to it's own 240v that is supplied from site/home it feeds the fuse box which then obviously goes to the leisure battery, i never plug it in at home unless we haven't used the van for months as it always leaves site fully charged and gets topped up by the split relay.

  14. All of my kit is in the rear wardrobe, I inherited the cable run but made it better.
I have the 230v hookup in the engine bay, then a copex running from the hookup throughout the engine bay up into the rear wardrobe over the engine, I then have the 230v consumer unit on the end, with the leisure battery consumer unit, a 4 way earth block, the ctek mxs 5.0 and a socket specifically for the ctek.
The load side (12v) is the connected to the leisure battery fuse panel with it own fuse to back feed the leisure battery when ever on hookup.
