My type 4 has twin solex carbs fitted with CB performance air filters .
The type i have on at the moment are the CB 3100 type , but have no joy getting them through JK VWH or Cool Air .
I have not had much joy tracking down a UK supplier of CB Performance parts . The pod filter is a bit larger than the ones supplied by VWH and the rest of them , Top 4"5/16 ....Bottom 5 3/16 height 4" and 2" opening to the carb .
If i can't get this in the UK what sort of charge would it cost to have them shipped over from the USA cheers .

  2. I have twin Weber 34 ICTs and got some K&N RA-0520 air filters off ebay for them which work really well but if K&N don't do the right size for you then try ebay as there are loads of smaller companies that will probably have them.

  3. You dont happen to have a picture of what they look like on your carbs and in the engine bay. I need to replace my air filters and these would be better than the pancake ones (at least I assume they would be)

As I've said before on other air filter threads - the guys at my local rolling road showed me the pancake ones I had got with the 34 ICTs were taking over 10 bhp off my 2 litre type 4 so definitely worth getting rid of those even if just for the cheap cone filters

Before the Brexit mega f-up , the cost of importing things was basically convert dollars to pounds.

Costs are : Carriage charges from the vendor. 15% VAT and ? 8% import duty from the UK Customs and Excise. Customs handling charge from Royal Mail, to help you pay the VAT and import duty before releasing your parcel .
I bought a $200 AFR meter a few years back from the manufacturer in California (PLX Technologies) and by the time I had it in my hands it cost £200.

Another time, $150 worth of USA sourced Lord of the Rings calendars resulted in a £55 charge from the UK end of FedEx before I could have them in my hands.

There $22 for a pair of 3100 air filters ...so don't quite know how much extra i have to pay .
Probably best emailing CB performance and asking them .

A lot of the charges are proportional, and there is a lower limit below which the UK does not bother charging, which is why everything from China says its a $10 gift (fairly accurate valuation of most of it ) on the customs declaration, and CDs and posters from Korea are always put down as what it cost the wholesaler or so it seems ..

However, I believe that the system in the USA requires a degree of honesty, so the shipper will be for it if they are too inaccurate.

As CB Performance actually advertises in Volksworld magazine , I expect that one of their partners listed in the advert may help.
Includes Limebug, VW Heritage for instance ..

  9. These K&N filters I think I'll buy some, do I also need to get K&N oil etc?

  10. I didn't buy any oil no. Shop around on eBay and Amazon as you can get them cheaper there but if you want to save cash then the cheaper cone filters from JK, Heritage etc will still give you a boost over the pancake ones.

    Yes , Just bought a K&N cleaning kit About £ 18 ...should do for 3 or 4 cleans .
Just spray the cleaner on , leave for 10 mins ...wash with water until water is clean , leave to dry naturally then spray the oil on down the pleats .
There is instructions with it .
