  1. Slowly starting get to grips with p/o wiring, traced the indicator light wire that goes into tne clock, put a bulb on and when I switched the ignition on the flasher unit started to buzz, when I turned the indicators on or the hazzards the buzzing stopped:(
    can anyone enlighten me?
    cheers

  2. Sorry, cant help without going through the wiring and tracing each one wire by wire,

But can add that I used to have a factory lights on buzzer, as in lights on door open, ignition off buzzer in one of my old buses :)

  3. Cheers majorhangover
I will check that later ,hope thats all it is :)

  4. All the US ones had this, it's bloody annoying, I threw mine a very long distance into a field.

  17. Hi All

    Could this be the problem?
I have been on JK website and they say that all buses should have a 3 pin plug and mine has 4. would this cause the buzzing ?I have checked all the earths and they seem fine. its only when i connect the indicator warning light to the clock cluster, the problem occurs. It also looks as though the P/O has soldered something to it in the past IMG_2355.jpg IMG_2356.jpg

If you look at the diagram on top, this flasher unit is intended to work with a trailer socket - it mentions 2+1 x 21W and 6 x 21W and shows a rectangle and a square box attached to it.

It looks like one of these -

The fourth terminal is for an indicator that the trailer is connected.

If somebody has decided there needs to be a wire on there and they have taken it somewhere silly the relay may well buzz.

Obviously if you do not have a trailer socket, it should still work as a flasher relay. Just dont connect the trailer pilot light connection.

Isn't the buzz supposed to tell you that the trailer indicators are working? I think it's law now, at least for new installations. But if the trailor isn't attached it shouldn't buzz.

Take a closer look at that Hella relay wiring diagram .

A three wire flasher on a bus has the dashboard bulb (blue/red wire) connected between the ignition+ and the the indicator switch positive connection/flasher output (blue wire).

The dashboard lamp comes on when the indicator switch is ON connecting the flasher but the power to the bulbs is OFF. The dashboard lamp goes off when the power to the indicator bulbs is ON. So the wire from the dashboard bulb is positive when the ignition is on.

On the Hella relay the trailer present pilot lamp goes between ground and the output from the relay.

So if you connect the dashboard lamp from a bus to the trailer present pilot lamp output from the relay you are feeding current to the buzzer in the relay.

Take the red/blue wire off that pin and put it on the same pin 49A as the blue wire going to the indicator/headlamp dim/dip switch.

Ignition+ to the relay via fuse into 49. Ground on 31.

Unless you have a trailer socket, then you add another indicator bulb between C2 and ground to indicate trailer presence. Otherwise leave it disconnected.

It is a nice relay and quite expensive..

If you dont like it I will give you something for it ...

Otherwise it is humming so it can remember the tune when the trailer is hooked up.
