Ii am looking to purchase a late 70's t2 I have been told unscrupulous sellers use cover panels to hide rust on the body panels and these a difficult to spot what should I be looking for I ma new to this and any help would be appreciated
Best advice is to take someone with you who knows busses. Expect a lot of rot and mechanical shortcomings.
Exactly this. Hard to find one with no issues at an affordable price, but there is good/normal rust in the usual places that is easier to sort and there is bad rust in bad places (eg gutters) which can be much more problematic.
For those who replied this is the t2 tiny rust mark on door pillar Sent from my SM-T330 using Tapatalk
Very shiny but that means f all, don’t recognise the roof, front badge miles too big, loads more pics and info required! Inside , outside , underneath and engine?
Don't jump in and buy the first one you see, take your time and look at a few, the process would help you form an idea on what you are looking for and get a feel for asking prices and condition. Spend a lot of time underneath and take lots of pics. Put up lots of pics up here of the van you are interested in, to get expert opinion. and as said, look up the vehicle's mot history which would reveal issues, bear in mind vans 40 years old and older are legally mot exempt as from May 2018. Having a fixed budget is important and when it comes to buying, start with a lower offer as you should expect to have to shell out more money to sort out the issues which the vehicle would be sold with. As said, its a risk buying on your own without knowledge of these vans, and many come on here after their purchase and needing help with even the very basics.
Home made front Badge that’s no only too big for a late bay, it’s also too big for the panel, held on by 3 selftappers? No visible factory seams? Run a mile.
@Davew take a look at this one http://thelatebay.com/index.php?threads/1975-rhd-aussie-bay.78067/#post-1467082
I would also add...as well as checking the bus over...check the seller (do you feel this person is genuine?)
